Course Description

Enrollment is limited to 20.  The webinar is available in the US and Canada via phone or VOIP, available elsewhere via VOIP.

About the Webinar:

This webinar allows inspectors and certifiers to further their understanding of the requirements of the NOP and COR standards as they pertain to record keeping in the processing environment, with an emphasis on methodology, practical applications and standardized reporting. The course exercises are designed so that each participant can complete them in either metric or US standard units.

This course is designed for persons with at least two years of experience in organic inspection or certification review experience. Course participants preferably will have completed an IOIA Basic Inspection course and or are already working as inspectors or reviewers. Participants must have approval from IOIA to sign up for this webinar course if they have not taken the basic IOIA processing inspection course, or do not have experience inspecting processing facilities.

About the Trainer:

The presenter Kelly A. Monaghan, experienced organic inspector, consultant, trainer and board member in Canada’s organic industry.

Scheduling:

This course is comprised of 4 components: self-study pre-webinar and mid-webinar assignments, the webinar presentations, and a final evaluation exam. The webinar will include in-class discussion, examples, exercises and the opportunity for questions and answers. The course concludes with an exam to evaluate individual learning.

  • The pre-webinar assignment presents two case studies, some discussion questions and an initial exercise to validate production records against product profiles.
  • The first webinar session reviews regulatory requirements, presents good practices and methods for in/out balances, presents a standardized in/out balancing reporting format, and presents recipe verification guidelines.
  • The mid-webinar assignment includes an additional exercise to validate production records against product profiles, as well as in/out exercises for both facilities presented in the case studies.
  • The second webinar session covers how to conduct traceability tests in the processing environment and use a standardized reporting format for such tests.
  • The final exam has short answer questions and exercises based on a case study: recipe verification, in/out balance and traceability.

The course may require 4-6 hours to complete the self-study pre-course and mid-course exercises and approximately 1 ½ -2 hours to complete the exam following the webinar.
