Low Bush Blueberries
Summary: The subject of lowbush blueberries is tough to summarize. This is a wild crop and it varies enormously from place to place, in regard to weed problems, insect problems, disease problems, wildlife depredations, etc.
It is relevant to inspectors in Maine, New Hampshire, a tiny bit in western Massachusetts, and Washington state, as well as Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, etc.
Our contacts' experience is in fields in NH and Maine---about 40 different fields.
Major weeds: Poplar, birch, maple, hardhack, goldenrod of various types, ferns.
Insects: Flea beetle, gypsy moth. They denude the plants of their leaves.
Wildlife:
Deer, crows or other flocks of birds.
